How to get to Myeongdong
From Myeongdong To Everland
By taxi or by bus there are plenty of good ways to get to the Everland Resort, located abourt 45 mintues south of Myeongdong it makes an easy day trip for the whole family.
A direct taxi there will be by far the easiest but of course this is a more expensive option. The taxi will need to pay tolls as well along the road which will be included in your fare. Ask your hotel to arrange a regular city taxi and the metered trip will be about 50,000 won which is about US$46 including the tolls.
Alternatively there are two bus routes from the city which go all the way to Everland Resort, however they don't start at Myeongdong so you will need to change transport.
Take the metro from Myeong-dong station to Gangnam Station and leave via Exit 3. Check the map before you leave so you can find the way to the Kyongbo Tower outside of which is the stop for the 5002 bus. This bus goes all the way to Everland and of course as that is a major destination you will see many other bus passengers alighting at this point so it is easy to see when you have arrived.
Alterantively there is bus 5700 which goes from Jamsil metro Staton also to Everland. However this route is more confusing therefore the 5002 is recommended.
Either bus route will of course take much longer than the Taxi, therefore if you are a group the Taxi is probably a better option as the price per person will not be too high.
From Myeongdong To Dongdaemun
Both of these popular shopping destinations are adjacent to the Seoul Metro/Subway line 4 so that is by far the best way to go between them. From Myeongdong just walk back to the Myeong-dong Station and take the line 4 eastwards for 3 stops.
From Myeongdong To Namsan Tower
It is only a short walk from the main Myeongdong shopping street to the cable car that goes up to the Namsan or N Seoul Tower. However the route is winding so a map is helpful to find the way. The route is of course uphill as the cable car station is not at sea level but slightly up the foot of the Mount Namsan so the walk will take more than 10 minutes, and visitors may be tired by the time they reach their destination. But the ride in the cable car with its amazing views over the city will take your breath away again, but in a good way.
Using a taxi to avoid the confusion will mean a quick and fast trip, however for those who like to explore it is a nice way to see some of the smaller streets of the city.
Go to the south end of Myeong-Dong, back to the Metro station, and cross the road using the subway underpass coming out at exit 3. Turn away from the main road and go past the trees towards the large building with L.C.I in letters at the top. Continue on with the Pacific Hotel. Either the road to the left or the right of the hotel will both take you to the cable car station, however the left hand road is quieter.
So take the left road at the Pacific Hotel and keep the hotel on your right and follow the small residential and shopping street. Here you will find all shops are signed in Korean exclusively, unlike Myeongdong where everything is English.
Looking up at the end of the street you can see Mount Namsan and at times can view the tower as well. Stay on the main road avoiding any turnings as it slopes gently upwards towards the mountain. As you get further from the main road the buildings become smaller and have shops more local business nature rather than shopping.
When the road takes a sharp turn right there will be in front of you a flight of stairs going straight on and up. Use these stairs to go up to the next road level, and here you see the beginning of the park. Follow the road along uphill, with the park on your left, and soon you will see the cables of the cable car.
Stay on the main road for another few minutes and you will come to the entrance of the car park of the cable car building.
The ride on the cable car takes you directly to the top of Mount Namsan and Namsan Tower itself.
From Myeongdong To Nami Island
Nami Island or Namisum is a wooded island located outside the city which is a popular tourist destination and has branded itself an indpendant republic in some sense. A woodland themepark it is a nature and tree lovers delight, but a little difficult to reach from the city.
The best approach is to use a shuttle bus which is provided by the Nami Island company, this shuttle bus runs from Jamsil Station (Subway Line 2, Exit 4) and stop in front of Lotte Mart. So take the Metro from Myeong-dong Station on Line 4 for 3 stops to Dongdaemun where you can change to the line 2.
So the route is subway Line 4 until Dongdaemun, then Line 2 until Jamsil, then shuttle bus to Nami Island. The shuttle bus leaves at different times on different days but can start as early as 8:30 so consult their website first. The bus ride alone can take over one hour.
From Myeongdong To Incheon Airport
Going to or from the Incheon International Airport? Of course you may have luggage and hence the best recommendation is a taxi which will take you door-to-door. However there are other more economical alternatives. There is an Airport Limousine Bus 6015 which is fast and comfortable and goes directly to the Ibis Ambassador Myeong-dong Hotel. They run from 4am until 10pm and cost only KRW10,000 per person including any luggage.
From the airport arrival hall go to Exit 5B and 12A to reach this bus.
Alternatively there is a fast express train which runs from the airport and can take you directly into Seoul Station, from there you can transfer to the Subway/Metro and use Line 4 to reach Myeong-dong Station which is only two stops away.
From Myeongdong To Insadong
As Insadong is quiet in the evenings it may be a good idea to shop in Insadong in the day time and then when things close there come back to Myeondong because of course where things never really close and there is something to see at all hours of the night.
